Wills and Such

If you are older, married, have children, and have assets, we suggest that you write a will before you leave as well as get proper life insurance. If something were to happen to you on the road, it is important that your family won’t have any problems taking care of you or your assets. You don’t want to leave them dealing with a legal battle.

We aren’t legal experts- we’re travel experts and suggest before you do anything, you consult a lawyer. But here’s a few suggestions and tips on what to do if you should decide you need a will.

You Should Get One if:

  • you wish your money and possessions to be distributed by something other than pre-existing law.
  • unmarried partners want to pass on everything to each other since unmarried couples cannot inherit from each other unless there is a will.
  • if you have children and want to make sure everything is taken care of for them.
  • if your circumstances have changed, it is important that you make a will to ensure that your money and possessions are distributed according to your wishes.

A legally valid will can ensure that your heirs and dependents don’t unnecessarily fight for their share of your assets after your death. It also leaves them with a set of instructions so they know what to do.

Requirements for a Will:

1. You must br 18 years of age.
2. You must be “mentally competent.”
3. The will must be in written form and signed. It is essential that the will is written and signed by you in the presence of 2 witnesses. A will not made in writing, but recorded as a voice, or captured in a video will not be legally sustainable in the event of a dispute in the future.
4. Provide your personal information.
5. Revoke any old wills.
6. List out your properties and other assets and their distribution.
8. Specify executors: In case the will is to be executed under the supervision of someone else, provide their names and other particulars.
9. State your wishes: For example, if you have disinherited a son who should not make a claim to your properties, state the reasons for your action. Tell people you want your body burned on a prye or your body disposed of at sea.
10. Two witnesses need sign the will.
